About Traditional Thai Yoga Massage

Traditional Thai massage is a 2500 year old practice with its roots in Buddhism, Yoga and Sen line, or Prana Nandi balancing. This clothed massage system is based on stimulating the meridian lines upon which the chakras lie, to allow the free flow of energy, stimulating the individual to self heal.

Kumar Bahaccha is considered the father of medicine in Asia and is honored today for his gift of healing knowledge. He was a contempory of the Buddha and personal physician to King Bimbisara. The healing abilities of the Buddhist philosophies and medicine combined to keep those that practice it healthy and happy, and the sangas that formed, in the time of the Buddha and beyond continued to teach and practice it. This system arrived in Thailand around the 2nd century BC, sent by Prince Asoka of India, who was a great follower of Buddhism, as practicing its techniques changed him from a violent man, wishing to conquer all the neighbouring enemys, to a great lover of self realization and peace.  This incredible transformation lead him to send emmesaries both monks and lay people to teach the philosophy of buddhism and the practice of healing massage. He did conquor his neighbours but with a great gift. This system spread through Thailand, Lao, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and beyond, but sadly was lost to India. Thai Massage is the act of loving kindness and is performed in a meditative state allowing an energetic connection between the client and practicioner to flow so the practicioner can instinctly sence the way to alieviate the inbalance in the energy system, thus heading the client to release the blockage.

Energy lines can become blocked due any unbalance, emotional, physical or spiritual. The general misuse of the body by not correctly eating, breathing, relaxing, exercising or thinking. Through a series of meridian acupressure and invigorating stretches the blockages are released allowing the free flow of prana, restoring and maintaining good health. The skeletal system is manipulated and flexed to give relief and allow for the correct range of movement the body was designed for. The circulatory and lymphatic systems are gently stimulated through pressure, encouraging the release of toxins and excess hormones and noxious build ups in the body. The muscles, tendons and ligaments are stretched to soften and elongate and relieve physical tension. Traditional Thai massage also works on the emotional system. The massage asks for conscious relaxation and trust in the practitioner's ability to guide the client through stretches that can confront or expose vulnerabilities that had been previously buried in the body. Whilst the massage is dynamic and invigorating, it is deeply relaxing enabling the client to feel healthier, stronger, more focused and able to deal with life's stresses and is highly effective in relieving long term ailments.
